Anakh-E-Gabroo

Anakh-E-Gabroo (AEG) is an independent all-male bhangra team that hails from Queens, NY. Despite the fact that this group of men is composed of dancers of differing backgrounds, schools and vocational callings, the team is united by their love of bhangra and their unique and creative "AEG" style, a well balanced blend of traditional bhangra with modern elements . In the past 5 years, AEG has competed and placed at numerous competitions across North America. In addition to their accomplishments on stage, the team consistently showcases and promotes this dance form at various local shows, charity functions, and private events.

Cornell Bhangra

Over the past 14 years Cornell Bhangra has become a permanent fixture on the competitive bhangra circuit. They are the longest continuously running team in North America and each year they host Pao Bhangra, the largest student-run show on Cornell's campus as well as the largest bhangra exhibition in North America. The team has performed at events all over the continent such as Washington D.C.'s Bhangra Blowout, Vancouver's VIBC, Chicago's PCS, Boston Bhangra, and many more. They strive to continue their legacy through their energy, excitement, and innovation.

D.C. Bhangra Crew

D.C. Bhangra Crew (DCBC) is an all-female Bhangra dance team representing the D.C. Metropolitan area. DCBC consists of first and second-generation students and individuals who seek to further explore the rich and vibrant culture of Punjab through the lens of performing arts. We aim to be an example of equality within a circuit that is traditionally male-dominated.

DC Metro Punjabi Arts Academy

DC Metro Punjabi Arts Academy (DCMPAA) is the first ever Punjabi folk dance school in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Our mission is to promote and preserve the rich and vibrant folk dances of Punjab and to empower our youth with positive cultural values.

Drexel University Bhangra

With talent, pride, and honor, Drexel University Bhangra (DUB) showcases the ethnic folk dance of Punjab, India. DUB has attended several competitions and placed in the last few years. In our 2010-2011 season, DUB placed 3rd at Bhangra in the Burgh 4 and 1st at Bhangra Blowout 18. DUB enthusiastically participates in charity shows, multi-cultural shows and campus events. To the team, dancing is the language of the heart; peacefully spreading the essence of diversity is our endeavor.

First Class Bhangra

First Class Bhangra is the elite all male bhangra team of Pittsburgh. The men of FCB have represented the Pittsburgh family at competitions in New York City, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, and most recently Los Angeles. Last year, we were given the opportunity to show OUR hometown of Pittsburgh that "Everything we do, we do it big." This year, we're here to show you that we can do it even bigger. With the twelve on stage and 2,300 in the crowd, everyone will know why we're the City of Champions.

UNC Bhangra Elite

Since its formation in 1996, UNC Bhangra Elite has strived to gain recognition nationally in the bhangra community. All the way from Chapel Hill, NC, we have come in hopes to gain new followers and to raise some eyebrows along the way! UNC Bhangra Elite is truly grateful to be dancing on this stage given this opportunity. Throughout this long journey, we want to prove to the world that we have made it this far and we are here to stay.

Virginia di Shaan

Virginia di Shaan is a cultural, co/ed dance team from the University of Virginia. The team performs a dance style known as bhangra, a typical North Indian folk dance from the state of Punjab. Virginia Di Shaan's mission is to spread the culture, history, and expression of this Punjabi dance. It competes on an intercollegiate level and professional level with teams from around the nation. Previous placings include: first place at Virsa Punjab Da 2009, second place at Bhangra in the Burgh 2010, second place at Bhangra Blowout 2010.

Tanah

- Carnegie Mellon University

Tanah is Carnegie Mellon's first South Asian Dance Troupe, performing on-campus, at inter-collegiate competitions and national showcases. United by our passions for dancing, each member continues to develop new styles and skills that allow us to express our dynamic individualism. Tanah prides itself by creating and performing dances ranging from western hip-hop and bhangra to modern classical. In short, Tanah stands for the purity of motion and the desire to develop forms of movement that express our emotions. Together as one, we honor our heritage and our fervor for dance.

Deewane

- Carnegie Mellon University

Deewane is Carnegie Mellon University's premier South Asian all-male a cappella group. We are known on campus and around the country for our unique ability to blend music from all ends of the spectrum - East and West. With their name being Hindi for "madly in love", the group was founded in the fall semester of 2007 by a group of Carnegie Mellon students who wanted to showcase their passion for music. After listening to us, we're sure you'll become "deewane" for Deewane!

BU Jalwa

Constantly integrating traditional and modern styles of dance from the East and the West, Jalwa pushes limits with choreography and fusion elements. Jalwa, or "passion" in Hindi, is what unites this team - a passion to dance, a passion to perform, and a passion to create excitement within the crowd. Our devotion to creativity, overall dedication, and undying love for one another is what sets us apart. We are not just a dance team, we are a family. We are Boston University Jalwa - one team, one passion.

Pitt Nrityamala

- University of Pittsburgh

Pitt Nrityamala strives to keep the tradition of Indian classical dance alive, and this year, the team comprises of dancers in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. We have performed on campus, in the Pittsburgh community, at the Johns Hopkins' Classical Arts Show, and for the Indian Ambassador, Meera Shankar. In February, Nrityamala competed at the University of Maryland at Laasya 2011, where we won 1st place. As national champions, Nrityamala will be hosting the competition Laasya 2012 in Pittsburgh on February 11, 2012 in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. We look forward to sharing the beauty of Indian classical dance at BIB V!

CMU Bhangra

Founded in 2006, CMU Bhangra is Carnegie Mellon University's premiere bhangra team. Having performed in various venues around Pittsburgh, CMU Bhangra has also competed in Ohio, North Carolina, Boston, New York, Florida and Michigan. We strive to encourage, advance and promote the art of Bhangra by spreading it through the Burgh.
